Revised Building Regulations Technical Guidance Document - Part L |
|
The 2008 Edition of the Building Regulations Technical Guidance Document - Part L, superseded the 2007 Edition on 10th July 2008 and will apply to new-builds, extensions and material alterations to residential and commercial properties where work commences on or after 1st July 2008.
The revised building regulations are focused of improving the energy performance of new and existing houses and commercial buildings by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
The main criteria for demonstrating compliance with the new regulations are as follows:
- 40% improvement in energy efficiency and 40% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions
- Use of renewable energy technologies
- Limitation of heat loss through the building fabric
- Efficiency of building services
- Construction quality and commissioning of services.
These regulations are currently being revised to achieve a 60% improvement in energy efficiency and a 60% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions in 2010. Minister John Gormley is confident that all new houses constructed in Ireland will be carbon neutral from 2013 onwards.
